The Fool

The Leeds Morris Fool wears a black top hat, black tail coat with appliqueed owl on the back, white shirt and club baldrick, black breeches and odd burgundy and green socks. He brandishes an inflated cow's bladder and a cow's tail. Moss Ambrose has developed the Lord of Misrule role to an outstanding degree and has become the major point of contact between dancers and audience, acting as announcer and collector in chief and frequently coaxing members of the audience to try a little of the dancing.

The Horse

Many Morris teams have an animal to accompany the dancers. Ours is a Horse called Dick. He is black, with snapping teeth, bulging eyes and flared nostrils, and wears a man in a black cloak. Dick is currently (2009) in temporary retirement awaiting extensive repairs. Intended at first to be sinister, Dick has acquired a well developed sense of mischief and quirky sense of humour, and enjoys acting in our bite-sized "Dick Speech" Mummers Play.
